Thank You Nancy

Our sincere thanks to Nancy Moore for inviting the Pilot members into her home for Lunch Bunch on August 30.  An enjoyable time was had by all.  Those in attendance were:  Cheryl, Heather, Martha, Beverly, Peggy D., Melba, Peggy H., Rebecca, Valerie, and Ann F.  It was a great opportunity for everyone to relax and visit with one another while enjoying a delicious lunch.  Nancy was a gracious hostess and we appreciate all that she did to make this Lunch Bunch a special event.

Pilot Club September 2013 President’s Letter

Hope you are enjoying the nice weather.  We are almost officially into Fall season,–our busiest fundraising quarter.  You will read more about the major fundraisers in this issue.  Be sure to sign up to work on each of them.  The County Fair starts Thursday, and we will have an exhibit next to the Project Lifesaver Committee.  See Beverly if you can volunteer to work an unfilled shift.

Beverly, Joyce, Peggy, Valerie, and I attended the Northern Area Workshop August 17 in Guntersville.  There were presentations on the ABC’s of Pilot, Membership, and Publicity, and we able to get some additional good suggestions from the other clubs.  The first TBI Camp is planned for next Spring–more information later.

This month’s program is “A Personal Story,” presented by Mickey Parrish.  We will also honor the Pilot International Sweetheart.

Fall Council is coming up October 11-13 at the Huntsville Marriott.  Let me know if you plan to attend.  The Pilot Club of Tuscaloosa is still selling tee shirts with the Alabama District logo.  Orders placed now can be picked up at Fall Council.

Thanks to all who give their time and talents to Pilot.

Archery Event Raised $2,500

Thank your for volunteering, being on time, and staying the course during Thursday, Friday and Saturday Archery Event.  This required getting “OUT OF THE BOX” AND TRYING SOMETIHING DIFFERENT FOR FUND RAISING.  Cullman Park & Rec is donating the $1,500 plus the owner of the event has committed $1,000.  So during the three days, we will receive a total of $2,500.

We gave 296 hours in community service to Cullman Park & Rec.  We received many compliments on our “HOSPITALITY,” WHICH EQUALS Service and Friendship.  We exposed Pilot Club of Cullman and Pilot International to almost every state in the union and many foreign countries.  ALL OF YOU DID AN EXCELLENT JOB FOR THE PILOT CLUB OF CULLMAN, BENEFITTING OUR PILOT LIGHT HOME, INC,

August 2013 President’s Letter

Alas, Summer is coming to an end.  We will have many activities going on as the weather starts to get cooler and the days get shorter.  Soon schools will start back, high school and college football games will dominate the week-ends, the County Fair will be here; and we will have our Rummage Sale.  We hope to be able to get some Auburn or Alabama tickets to raffle.  Please let us know if you have a connection for tickets.

I hope all of you are planning to attend the August meeting.  Our hostesses Ann, Becky, and Beverly have planned a special Hawaiian/beach theme for the evening.  The program, presented by Jodi Skinner, is titled “The Many Hats That We Wear.”

This month we elect the Pilot International Sweetheart, who will be announced during Foundation month.  Candidates for this honor should be active in an assigned role within the club, promote Pilot International and its activities, participate in brain related activities, assist with service projects and fundraising, and be faithful in attending meetings.  A donation is made to Pilot International in the name of the PI Sweetheart.

Welcome to our newest members:  Kim Lovoy, Mary Jo Letson, Liz Walls, Samantha Gibbs, and Tayana Millwood.  They are eager to get involved in projects and fundraisers and we are very glad they chose to join us.

See you Tuesday night.

Each year Pilots from around the globe gather for the Pilot International Annual Convention & Leadership Conference to participate in valuable leadership training seminars, informative workshops and fundraising events for the Pilot International Founders Fund. This year’s special guest speakers included author, artist and philanthropist Suzy Toronto and author and non-profit teamwork and leadership expert Dr. Kathleen Sturgis.

Now in its 92nd year, Pilot International is an international volunteer service organization. Home to over 8,000 members in almost 400 clubs and parent organization of Anchor Clubs with over 8,000 youth members in more than 300 clubs, Pilots are committed to “Do More, Care More and Be More” for their communities every day. Pilots provide financial and hands-on support for numerous national and local initiatives in keeping with the organization’s “ABCs” – Anchor Clubs [Youth Development & Leadership], Brain Safety & Fitness and Caring for Families in Times of Need. In addition to its many community-based activities, Pilot International created and maintains the BrainMinders family of Brain Safety initiatives, the “Think H.A.P.P.Y. Be H.A.P.P.Y. Be BRAIN FIT!” public awareness campaign, the “Pick Me Ups” community initiative for Family Caregivers, and Pilot International was instrumental in establishing the second week in November as International Care & Kindness Week.
